PIANO LESSON CONTENTS

At YTS, we welcome beginner through advanced levels. Beginners will start with the established Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series which carves a direct, obtainable learning path. As a student progresses, they will be offered an outlet to learn pieces that are relevant to them. Whether those interests are in classical repertoire or modern pop, our goal is to give a fulfilling education in note-reading, proper technique, mature artistry, and performance. Incorporated into lessons is exposure to improvisation, composition, and collaboration with other musicians.

In addition to technical knowledge and musicianship, often in the first 4 - 5 lessons, students are writing their first piano song. When writing their own music, students explore the possibilities of notation, and learn early on the scope of music as an art. As artists, we can demonstrate mastery by not only reviving the life of others' works, but by also creating our own.

FIRST LESSON

The first lesson at YTS is a free assessment lesson to discuss motivation and goals, set expectations for taking music lessons, and decide the schedule/length of lessons. This is a zero commitment, get-to-know-me time. You do not need to bring anything to this first introduction.

PRACTICING

While piano lessons happen once a week, in the mean time, the student is expected to practice 5-7 days on their own; the quantity being dependent on variables like age, skill, and goals. A practice routine should be closely monitored and established early on to create the best habits. Committing to piano lessons is committing to practicing!
